P. Arora: I am Prachi Arora From NOIDA final year BBA
Ritesh kamath: Hi , This is Ritesh have exp of 2.5 years Engg in
Comp science Bangalore
A. Kumar: Hi, I am Amit wkg in Infosys, Bangalore
Manan Shamihoke: Hello friends. Good evening. I am Manan Shamihoke
from Ahmedabad. I am a computer Engineer and have 15 months of
experience
Debabrata Nag: I am third year chemical engineering student at
Jadavpur University,Kolkata
www.UrPercentile.com: THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION IS " ELEPHANTS CAN
FLY TOO" .
Manan Shamihoke: Hello friends... We have today's topic
as "Elephants can fly too". I think this topic suggests something
related to doing unexpected things
Ashish: Though a abstract topic .its interesting .here it
means ..that even a firm making losses n losses ..it can also make
profit and achieve great heights
Ritesh kamath: This reminds me of Airbus 380 .. the flying mammoth
as we can call it . here we can relate this topic to companies such
as IBM or an Indian company like Infosys
P. Arora: I would say that this topic suggests that even what seems
to be impossible is not actually impossible, thats why we say that
nothing is impossible in this world
abc xyz: ya ashu..industry which is sick can even be well if it
believes itself
Debabrata Nag: The topic can also mean that achieving impossible
things is POSSIBLE and there is nothing called impossible, only if
you have proper determination. The upbringing of MICROSOFT is yet
another example....Bill gates has shown what proper determination
can do
A. Kumar: Ok. The topic suggests to me two aspects: 1.) It salutes
to the human spirit with never dying spirit suggesting everything is
achievable no matter how 'mammoth' the task is . 2.) It signifies
effect of ever growing consumerism where each product is pushed in
such hype.
Manan Shamihoke: the topic suggests that elephants can fly. An
example related to this could be our own country... India. India was
under every kind of deficit after independence and it was one of the
most underdeveloped countries. But now... the situation is
completely different... India has come off flying with many colours.
India is now one of the most powerful nations in this world. This
also suggests that one shall never ever loose hope
Ritesh kamath: Traditionally we can see that there were some
companies which were very profitable & as they grew both in size &
assets the profits got cut & they were forced to down size. what i
am intending to say is that a company should know when to shed
excess weight in terms of employees & projects when they don't add
value
Debabrata Nag: India has also been the source for academic
infrastructure throughout the world, though underestimated long time
back. One example is Mr. Dhirubhai AMbani--he has really shown us
how "elephants can fly too"
Ashish: Of the top10 billionaires in India only few have been from
iims ..rest dint have that much studies ..but with strong will
power .they made everything possible. And anyone that believes in
what he is saying will believe that an elephants can fly too, I
think he is blatantly trying to say, "Yes we did it"
ritesh kamath: But it is indeed remarkable to see Infosys or Wipro
which are true Indian Elephants as we see them soar high in the sky
in the current business environment
A. Kumar: I think we are restricting ourselves to India. Let us move
further
P. Arora: the topic in itself says a numerous things regarding a
person regarding an organization n regarding other things too, as I
said earlier That this topic in itself is something which seems to b
impossible and even we r discussing on it still we wont ever say it
afterwards that elephant can even fly because its not practically
true!! although in real life situations whether its some one
personal life or whether anything is related to someone business
problem there r many things which we haven't tried yet n think that
it is impossible but actually till the time we wont go for it n put
our best we r no one say that we wont b able to do it!!!
P. Arora: there are numerous examples in front of us which can
prove that even elephants can fly !!
Ritesh kamath: For an elephant( big company) to fly it has to
consistently make profits & have a vision into the future. Some of
the elephants like motorola & IBM had done this so well in the 1950s & 1960s .The management & innovative ideas for the key for such
companies to outperform the competition & stay ahead in the race
A. Kumar: It also signifies achievement in another dimension for an 'elephant'. I mean to say elephant has distinction of being
powerful on land. If he started flying he gained power in another sphere too . Also, this suggests one should never be complacent with current achievements in life. Life is to keep doing things, trying exploring new territories
Debabrata Nag: definitely there a number of examples can be
cited.....but let us think in a way that why elephant is mentioned
and not tiger....our logics apply there too
Ritesh kamath: Now, it is the Indian service sector which is
harbouring heavyweights such as TCS, PATNI , Satyam & in the
biomedical space like Ranbaxy , Glaxo, Biocon have carved a niche
for themselves & have successfully transformed from a medium scale
company to large global enterprises
P. Arora: nothing is called as impossible in this world and i would
like to prove this by giving certain examples from the history of
our country and the most known example would be MAHATAMA
GANDHI he himself was a person who was not known by anyone till
the time he haven't raised his voice against British.
Ritesh kamath: So I think now we can list out what we feel is
important for a company to grow & become a heavyweight &
consistently achieve high rates of growth
Debabrata Nag: Each person is not known prior to something he does
is great enough
A. Kumar: Let us focus on flip side also. What happens
if 'elephants' really starts flying
Debabrata Nag: One can succeed in whatever field if one has proper
determination
Ritesh kamath: It is not surprising if an elephant can fly but the
interesting part is how long it can sustain the flight.
Debabrata Nag: Now that's interesting, if elephants can fly we can
definitely save our flight costs
A. Kumar: This may indicate in some case, too much risk taking
capability also which may prove fatal
Manan Shamihoke: Another thing which this topic signifies that we
shall never underestimate anyone. We shall never ever discourage
anyone. We shall never say that they or he will not be able to do
it... One example is our Indian cricket teams performance in
Cricket world cup 2003.
After the Australia match... who would have thought that they will
reach till finals? But they did
This can be a motivating statement. Which we as managers can use to
take our team out of any depressing moment
P. Arora: every person is capable of doing whatever he thinks
nothing is impoossible ........ and if we say that AN ELEPHANT
CAN FLY we should always have t beleive that we can acheive
anything we ahve thought of !!
Ashish: thru proper management of d wings d elephnt can hv great
heights n dat 2 constant
Debabrata Nag: definitely one can fly higher and higher, but
sustainablity is a factor
Manan Shamihoke: yes sustainability is indeed needed, and one must
not forget the ground no matter how high he flies... One shall be in
limits and know the complete range of things achievable.
A. Kumar: Correct. So one has to know its limits too and act
accordingly
Ashish: to fly a elephant needs some wings n feathers...which r
they ? they have 2 b invented ...I think they r research n
techno...wit that nothing is impossible
Debabrata Nag: If elephants can fly, does it mean it gives
motivation to others too, I think suitability is also a factor
P. Arora: that one should never forget the ground reality of his her
own self
A. Kumar: One more thing, Elephants despite being giant, they are
defended by creatures as small as Ants
Ritesh kamath: I agree that the very fact that an elephant can fly
states that we can as well fly & nothing is unacheivable.
www.UrPercentile.com: SUGGEST EVERYONE TO SEND ONE CONCLUDING
STATEMENT
A. Kumar: Flying signifies elephants victory in that sphere too
Manan Shamihoke: To conclude... I wanna state that Everything is
possible in this world and we shall never underestimate ourself or
others... But then we shall never forget that there's a ground to
which ultimately we all belong.
Debabrata Nag: We can conclude that everyone can acheive their goals
however difficult it may be,but remember SUITABILITY &
SUSTAINABILITY and your past grounds
Ashish: I conclude that. it really motivates...others think that
even a loss making firm ..can do why cant we also do. Just strong
will power and some tactics will make impossible as
possible....and the whole economy will fly
P. Arora: conclusion : EVERYTHING IS AS HUGE AS AN ELEPHANT SO IF
AN ELEPHANT CAN FLY THEN WHO SAYS THAT WE ACNT SO BELEIVE URSELF N
PUT UR BEST IN WHATEVER U R IN TO !!!!!!!!!!
A. Kumar: I conclude .Act of flying by elephants is salute to never
dying spirit, Despite so many odds (weight, structure) it overcame
the earth's resistance (real problems)
Ritesh kamath: I agree that the very fact that an elephant can fly
states that we can as well fly & nothing is unachievable. On the
other hand Companies which have become heavyweights in their own
areas can also sustain continued levels of growth & prosperity with
a long term vision & making innovation their forte. Hence i
conclude.. thanks for the opportunity
Manan Shamihoke: Thanks to urpercentile
Ashish: if elephants can fly ..y cant ..other animals of the forest
fly too ?
www.UrPercentile.com: OK THANKS EVERYONE, WILL SEND THE ANAYSIS OF
THIS DISCUSSION ON THE GROUP SOON.
