IIFT GD-PI FORMAT:
GD would be longer than normal and its duration may be 45-60 minutes. The group size may be 12+/-2.
In the GD, each of the participants may be asked to speak on the topic for 1-1.5 minute after which regular GD will start.
Last year, each of the participants acted as a moderator in rotation for about 3 minutes each, and each participant was asked to summarize in the end. The same is likely to continue this year too.
The GD Topics are likely to have a higher share of Global Business/ Economics – related topics. Some suggested topics that should be prepared for are:
A. Capital Account Convertibility – Is India ready for it?
B. SEZs – Boon or bane?
C. WTO – is it really meeting its objectives?
D. FDI in retail
E. Private participation in infrastructure is highly desirable
F. 10% economic growth is achievable by 2010
G. Liberalization – good or bad for India
H. River linkage may lead to economic and ecological disaster
I. India can overtake China very soon in terms of economic growth and development
Students will be asked to write an essay not exceeding 300 words in 20 minutes on a given topic. Typical topics could be:

B. Future growth of Indian agriculture and its effect on Indian economy
C. Government’s rural employment scheme: step towards rural development
D. Learn to unlearn
E. Consumerism

PI will be taken by a panel that may include a psychologist and the interviewe are likely to be probed on their answers to the various questions in the application forms.
