ANSWERS - HURDLE 24 : FRACTIONS

Lessons to be learned from Hurdle 24 :

1. It is always easier to work with whole numbers than to work with decimals. Like for increase by 25 % Instead of writing 1.25X write as
125X/100 and at the end multiply the other side by 100.
2.. Do not reduce the fraction till the last step of the problem.

Ans 1. A1. let the original numerator be 3X so the original denominator will be 7X
New numerator = 125*3X/100
New denominator = 75*7X/100
or 15X/4+ 21X/4 = 36
so X= 36*4/36 = 4
So original numerator= 3*4=12 and original denominator= 7*4=28
Sum=12+28=40

Ans 2. 50

Ans 3. 60

Ans 4. 100

Ans 5. 68

Ans 6. 76

Ans7. 100

Ans8. 115

Ans 9. 110

Ans 10. 300

Ans 11. 320

Ans12. 550

Ans13. 700

Ans14. 8000

Ans15. Let the original numerator be 9X so the original denominator will be 14X
New numerator = 67*9X/100
New denominator = 133*14X/100
or 67*9X + 133*14X = 17255*100
so 2465 X = 1725500
so X= 1725500/2465 = 700
So original numerator= 700*9 = 6300 and original denominator= 14*700= 9800
Sum=6300 +9800 = 16,100

Ans16. E , Ans17. I , Ans18. K , Ans19. B , Ans20. F
