SOLUTIONS by www.urpercentile.com:
Q1 to 10 :
First get the total marks scored by each student and the total
marks scored by the the five in each subject from the average
marks given. Total score = average *5 so we have
Anjali = 196
Bhanu = 168
Chandra = 162
Dushant = 159
Eena = 183
Physics total = 163
Chemistry Total = 174
Maths Total = 179
Computers Total= 165
Biology Total = 187
Now draw a table with names in row and subjects in column and
fill the given data :
Phy Chem Math Computer Biology Total
Anjali 25 44 43 ? 46 196
Bhanu 24 ? 41 26 ? 168
Chandra ? ? ? 27 37 162
Dushant 43 20 ? ? 28 159
Eena ? 43 24 41 ? 183
Total 163 174 179 165 187
Now first get the score of Anjali in computers as all the
remaining score are available and total is also known.
Then score of Dushant in computers as we have the total marks
scored in Computers and we have the the marks scored by
everyone except Dushant.
Similarly the remain can be solved.
In Biology Bhannu and Eena scored same so we put each
marks as X then we have 46 +X+37+28+X=187 and thus get their
score.
Finally we get :
Phy Chem Math Computer Biology Total
Anjali 25 44 43 38 46 196
Bhanu 24 39 41 26 38 168
Chandra 34 28 36 27 37 162
Dushant 43 20 35 33 28 159
Eena 37 43 24 41 38 183
Total 163 174 179 165 187
Q11 to 16 can be solved using following shortcut :
Let Total Length of two trains = D
Let Time taken to cross in opposite direction = T1
Let Time taken to cross in same direction = T2
then S1= | (D/T1) + (D/T2) | / 2
and S2= | (D/T1) - (D/T2) | / 2
SI = Speed of first train and S2= speed of second train.
