ANSWERS - HURDLE 06 : CONSUMPTION , PRICE AND EXPENSE
Ans 1. Consider Original price (P1) = 100 and
original cost (C1) = 100 making original expense (E1) = 10000
New Price = P2 = 115
New Expense = 10000*92/100 = 9200
115*C2= 9200
C2= 80
So reduced by 20 %.
Ans 2. Let Original Exp = 100X
So New Expense = 138X
125*C1= 100X
or C1 = 4X/5
138*C2= 138X
C2 =X
Or C1= 4C2/5
So consumption was increased by 25 %
Ans 3. Consider Original price (P1) = 100 and
original cost (C1) = 100 making original expense (E1) = 10000
P2 = 125
E2= 15000
C2 = 15000/125 = 120
So Consumption increase by 20 %.
Ans 4. Consider Original price (P1) = 100 and
original cost (C1) = 100 making original expense (E1) = 10000
C2 = 90
E2= 10890
So P2 = 10890/90
P2 = 121
So the result of two successive increase by same percentage
was 21 %
So each time it was increase by 10 %
as : 10 + 10 +10*10/100 = 21
Ans 5. Short cut for this :
TYPE 1 : Price of a commodity is increased by 60 %. By how
much % should the consumption be reduced so that the
expense remain the same.
TYPE 2 : Price of a commodity is decreased by 60 %.
(UrPercentile.com) By how much % can the consumption be
increased so that the expense remain the same.
Solution :
TYPE1 : (100* 60 ) / (100+60) = 37.5 %
TYPE 2 : (100* 60 ) / (100-60) = 150 %
So Ans 5 = (100* 25)/ (100+25) = 20 %
Ans 6. Consider Original price (P1) = 100 and
original cost (C1) = 100 making original expense (E1) = 10000
P2 = 100-x
C2 = 100+x
E2= 9600
(100-x)*(100-X) = 9600
Solving we get X = 20
So New price = 80. (UrPercentile.com)
If new price = 80 original price was 100
So if new price = 100 the 0riginal price = 100*100/80 = 125
Ans 7 . (100*50)/ (100+50) = 33.33%
Ans 8 . (100*50)/(100-50 ) = 100 %
Ans 9. (100*X) /( 100+X) = 25
or 2500 + 25X = 100X
so X = 33.33
Another way could be (UrPercentile.com):
Consider Original price (P1) = 100 and
original cost (C1) = 100 making original expense (E1) = 10000
C2 = 75
E2 = 10000
P2 = 10000/75 = 133.33 so increase by 33.33 %
Ans 10. (100*X)/ (100-X)= 100/6
or 600X = 10000-100X
or 700X = 10000
X = 100/7 = 14.28
Another way could be (UrPercentile.com):
Consider Original price (P1) = 100 and
original cost (C1) = 100 making original expense (E1) = 10000
C2 = (116+ 2/3)
E2= 10000
P2 = 10000/116.66
= 85.71
so reduced by 14.28 percent
Ans 11. C
Ans 12. B
Ans 13. A
Ans 14. E
Ans 15. D
Ans 16. G
Ans 17. Rs 15 crore towards upgradation of the 90-km long
Cuttack-Paradip road as mentioned in last line of the passage.
Cuttack-Paradip road is state highway 12 as mentioned in last
line of paragraph 3.
So Per Km = 15crore / 90 = 16.66 Lakh Per Km.
